Eat sleep breathe Rome – the not to miss on a lux family trip to Rome the eternal city!

Rome the eternal city is perhaps my favourite city in the world. A bucket list city full of hidden gems! I love the history, the culture and the food. So if you want to make the most out of a visit to Rome the eternal city here are our not to miss essentials so you too can Eat, Sleep and Breathe Rome:

Best Places to Eat in Rome

If there is one place on Earth that can be guaranteed to find food for all the family to love, Rome is the place.

The staples of pizza and pasta are sure to be a crowd pleaser and is there anything better than gelato to end a meal?

And for the adults – why not indulge in the Italian coffee tradition. But don’t embarrass yourself by ordering the wrong coffee at the wrong time of day. Just remember that milky coffees are only for the morning!

Our go to place for a fab Italian meal in Rome has to be Spiriti e Formi. It is right round the corner from the Trevi Fountain but offers a proper rather than touristy Italian meal! If you find yourself in Rome on a rainy day this is a great place to take a long Italian meal.

Where do you think the best places to eat in Rome are?

Best Places to Stay in Rome

When in Rome, there is only one place for meet that meets my expectations of a glitz and glam Roman hotel and that is the Westin Excelsior. Famed for being a haunt of celebrities and wannabe film stars, the Westin Excelsior brings back memories of the golden age of film. It perfectly combines a mix of luxurious decor with antique furnishings and offers one of the best locations in all of Rome. Perfect for families traveling to the eternal city! Conveniently located next to public transport and only steps away from one of our favourite spots in Rome – Villa Borghese Gardens.   For us – it is the only place to stay when visiting Rome especially when we are visiting Rome with a toddler or baby.

Next time I am determined to visit their luxurious spa and onsite indoor swimming pool and their presidential suite is a definite bucket list hotel item for us!

Must Sees in Rome

Everywhere you step in Rome, you can breathe in history. Simply taking a stroll around Rome will have you breathing in the city. But our favourite spots in the city to truly experience Roman culture are:

The Colosseum and Forum

Though ruins, the Colosseum and Forum truly bring history alive. Our recommendation is to take a guided tour around the sites to be sure you get the most out of the sites. For more tips on visiting the Colosseum click HERE!

Villa Borghese Gardens

Temple and Boating Lake

My number one place for families to visit in Rome. If you book tickets in advance you can go into the museum in the gardens but even without this the gardens are a fantastic place to visit. Offering amazing vantage points across Rome and beautiful gardens filled with sculptures it is the perfect place for families to run around and have a picnic.

The Vatican

The Vatican City

The Vatican City

Ok, I know – the Vatican is technically not in Rome. But no trip to Rome is complete without a visit to the Vatican. Whether you just go to St Peters Square, the basilica or the museums, The Vatican is a must do when on a trip to Rome.

NOTE: Please remember that the Vatican dress code is strict and enforced. For a guide on what to wear in the Vatican check out our post.
