You might be wondering whether Disneysea with toddlers is worthwhile  especially as Tokyo Disneyland is traditionally more likely to attract a toddler audience – you can check out our Tokyo Disneyland with toddlers guide here. 

Tokyo Disneysea is a completely unique experience to Japan. No other Disneyland park around the work has the Disneysea theme. I would categorise the park as oceanic steampunk and it does tend to attract a slightly older agency.

However despite this older audience I would still say that Tokyo Disneysea with toddlers is still a good idea however it does take a bit more planning. As such here are our tips for Tokyo disneysea with toddlers.

Travel off peak

One of the benefits about visiting Tokyo Disney with a toddler is that you aren’t beholden to school holidays (unless they have older siblings).

Tokyo Disneysea is notorious for its crowds so anything you can do to try and avoid the crowds will really help you achieve more in the park.

And on top of the lesser crowds you are also far more likely to to get a better deal on accommodation and transport to the parks.

Decide if you want to visit one or two parks

Tokyo Disney is compromised of two sites – the traditional Disneyland and Disneysea.

If you only have one day in Japan to visit the Disney parks I would just choose to do one park – likely Disneyland as this has most toddler friendly rides but if you want a unique Disney experience then you should definitely consider Disneysea.  However if you have two or more days then I would definitely recommend doing both parks!

Decide if you want to stay on site

Sheraton Grande Tokyo Disney – Where to Stay for Tokyo Disney

There are definitely advantages to staying on site at Tokyo Disney.

Firstly you don’t have to get public transport in the morning. Everyone knows how crazy Tokyo rush hour traffic can be and how busy the trains are in the morning. Staying on site means you won’t have to go into the fray with your toddler and stroller and will stay your day more peacefully. 

Also while the Tokyo resorts do not have the Early Magic Hours or Extended Magic Time, they do have happy entry. This allows guests at the Disney resorts to enter 15 minutes early. 

Other benefits especially for this traveling with toddlers include:

However the only downside to these hotels is they are more expensive than off site hotels. A good compromise can be to stay one of the on site hotels ran by partners rather than a Tokyo Disney resort. WE stay at Sheraton Grande Tokyo Disney hotel and found this to be the perfect compromise. 

Take Snacks  

Snacks are expensive at Disneysea and there is nothing worse than a Hangry toddler in a queue. Be sure to pack plenty to keep your toddler happy and save your pennies. 

Bring Pull Ups 

Another big concern for me when travelling with my potty trained toddler is having access to toilets. My advice is to make sure you take a toilet break after every ride but have some pull ups in your backpack just in case they get desperate in a queue.

Take Layers 

The weather at Tokyo Disney is temperamental and you can certainly get a rainy day at Tokyo Disney.  Therefore we recommend packing layers with you so you are covered for every occasion. 

Buy Costumes at Home in Advance 

One of the things I noticed was that when my little girl was in costume she got better interactions with characters. However we also noticed that buying costumes on site comes with a premium price tag. Therefore we recommend buying your Disney costumes on line in advance as this will definitely save you money.

Tokyo DisneySea

One of the things I have come to accept about Disney is that isn’t the most relaxing holiday especially in the lead up but in my opinion it is well worth it when you are there.

I recommend planning your day to make sure you know what typical queue times are, and to have a recommend Disneysea itinerary to follow. 

Is DisneySea Stroller Friendly

One of the questions we get asked a lot is “is Disneysea stroller friendly?”

Well I have good news for you, Disneysea is indeed stroller friendly. The Disneysea park is actually relatively flat and there fore easy to get around with a stroller.

Make use of the Baby Care Centre

If you are travelling to Tokyo Disneysea with a baby or even a toddler you might want to use the Baby Care Centre.

The Baby Centers at Tokyo Disney have changing stations, sell anything that you may have forgotten in your Tokyo Disney day pack, have nursing stations and food prep areas. 

There are three Baby Care Centers at Disneysea. They are located at:

• Mermaid Lagoon
• American Waterfront and the
• Mediterranean Harbor. 

Facilities at each of these locations differ so do check which one has the facilities you require. 

Use Rider swap

While there are plenty of toddler friendly rides at Disneysea there are lots of thrill rides that toddlers will not be able to go on. 

If you want to go on some of these rides be sure to use the rider swap function to allow the older members of the party to join the queues they wish.

Watch Disney Movies before you go 

One of the thing that really enriched my toddlers experience was being familiar with a range of Disney movies.

This way your little one will enjoy the character meet and greets more than if they weren’t familiar with the characters.

While Tokyo Disneyland park may be more famed for its toddler friendly rides, there are plenty of Disneysea rides for toddlers. 

There are several rides at Disneysea with no height restriction or of a height requirement that most toddlers should be able to meet. We recommend measuring your toddlers height before travel to ensure Disneysea is worth it for you and to avoid disappointment on certain rides.

Personally my little one enjoyed the areas of Mermaid Lagoon and Arabian Coast most but there is plenty to and see throughout the parl.

Disneysea doesn’t have parades in the traditional sense. However that does not mean there are not things for toddlers to see.

Instead of a parade Disneysea does a show on the central lake. Depending on the time you visit Disneysea will depend on what show you will see. 

When we visited Tokyo Disney in October we enjoyed the Disney villains shows on the lake.

Usually the shows take the form of characters on large floats. Usually the shoes are conducted in Japanese but I don’t think this will affect your enjoyment. 

Character Meet and Greets at Disneysea

There are plenty of meet and greets at Tokyo Disneysea. These can include regular meet and greet spots where you queue up to meet characters but we also found plenty of roaming characters to meet with. 

Regular meet and greets at Disneysea usually include:

• Mickey & Minnie Mouse
• Shellie-May
• Goofy
• Mr Incredible

and the roaming meet and greets tend to change depending on what day you visit. 

Overall experience of Tokyo Disneysea with a toddler

Overall we found Tokyo Disney toddler friendly. There are lots of meet and greets and toddler rides at Disneysea that make it the perfect day out with a toddler.
