Review of the Grand Hyatt Melbourne

Review of the Grand Hyatt Melbourne

When choosing a hotel for business rather than pleasure it is all about location, location, location! Which is why when travelling to Melbourne I chose the Grand Hyatt Melbourne because of its proximity to my conference venue. On top of this however, the Grand Hyatt is also perfectly located for sightseeing being on Collins Street. Collins Street is one of the main streets in Melbourne and being located there meant you had easy access to Melbourne’s awesome museums, theatres, restaurants and coffee and street art laneways. What more could you want!

Obligatory blogger bed shot

I was pretty tired when I arrived in Melbourne so after the obligatory blogger bed shot I was eager to catch some Z’s. The bed was amazingly comfortable and my room offered great views of the city! I was on the 22nd floor with a city rather than a river view and I enjoyed waking up to this every morning!

My view

The river views weren’t bad either though!

I had heard mixed things from other bloggers about the Grand Hyatt Melbourne before I went but I found my room to be lovely. It was well kept and very practical. But I particularly loved the bathroom which had a great shower and equally lovely bath.

The bathroom

As I was travelling solo for work and also sick for part of my trip I sampled quite a few of their room service offerings. I have to say that I found their room service to be excellent! In particular their burger is noteworthy and a must try off their room service menu!

Also, as I was travelling alone I allowed myself the indulgence of a spa treatment. The quality of the treatment was excellent however I felt the leisure facilities perhaps could do with some maintenance.

Treatment room

Now not being picky but if there is one area that desperately needs improvement in the Grand Hyatt Melbourne it has to be their coffee! Melbourne – home of the flat white and with a great coffee culture – means that I expected my hotel coffee to be pretty damn good. But there wasn’t a Nespresso machine in sight or any other hip coffee amenity. Instead what I found was a freeze dried coffee satchet like you would expect at any three star hotel. Now the Grand Hyatt isn’t a three star hotel and Melbourne is a coffee city so please Grand Hyatt Melbourne consider changing your in-room coffee offer!

On the other hand though, the in-room tea was T2 a local and excellent brand was definitely of the quality I expect for 5* in room amenities.

Overall I really enjoyed my stay at the Grand Hyatt Melbourne and would definitely use on a return trip whether for business or pleasure.
