What is the Disneyland Single Rider Line?
The single ride line at Disneyland is an option for a handful of lines in both Disneyland and California Adventure park which allows a person who is traveling alone or who is happy to ride an attractions alone to join a in theory smaller queue.
The queue for in the single attraction line tends to be smaller than the regular stand by queue because in this line you are filling up seats that otherwise wouldn’t be used.
For example if you are on an attraction where a car can seat three people the Matterhorn Bobsled for example, but a group of two are riding, you as a single person will be able to join their car.
By filling up these empty spaces you are likely, although not guaranteed to get on the ride much quicker than if you were just in the regular stand by queue.
Can a group of people use the Single Rider at Disneyland?
It is worth mentioning thought that you don’t have to be at Disneyland on your own to use the single rider. If you are in a group you may join the single ride line and wait in the queue as a group however you will NOT be boarding the ride as a group as each person will have to fill you single spaces.
Therefore if you are in a group but don’t mind riding individually the single rider line may be a great way of reducing your wait times at Disneyland. However if you want to ride together you must either use Genie + all together or just join the regular standby line as a group.
What is the Disneyland single rider line age requirement?
One of the things you will notice about the single rider line as opposed to the regular stand by line at Disneyland is that the single rider line has a minimum age requirement.
In order for a child to use the single rider line at Disneyland they must be at least 7 years of age. You can not do single rider lines at Disneyland with toddlers or California Adventure rides with toddlers therefore.
Also it should go without saying that they must also meet any other restriction i.e. the ride height restriction to be able to go on the line as a single rider.
If you are letting your child use the single rider line for the first time I would advise picking your ride carefully. Even the bravest seven year old may get scared on a ride if they suddenly find themselves on it alone. In my opinion the best ride with a single rider queue in the parks to start your little one on are Goofy’s Sky School and Grizzly Gulch River Rapids as these are two of the tamer rides with single rider lines.
Also if you are using the single rider queue with a child I would advise making arrangements on which one of you is riding first and where you will meet once the ride is over. Where possible I recommend having someone waiting at the ride exit to meet your child when you get off. Goofy’s sky School is great for this reason as as a parent you can watch your child in the queue the whole way and then be ready to meet them as they get off.
However if you have two people who are riding using the single rider line speak to the CM about the best way to organise this. I personally would ride the ride as an adult first and let my child go second as I can make sure I grab them as they get off but the CM can advise about the best and safest order of riding. I personally would not let my seven year old use the single ride without having someone to meet them when they get off however.
Which rides have lines for single riders at Disneyland
As there are two parks at Disneyland California we will split this section into Disneyland and California Adventure so you know what rides you are looking for in each park.
While this list of rides with single rider queues is up to date as of September 2022 it is worth noting that Disney will often make changes to what it offers single rider queues on with very little warning therefore it is always worth checking your Disneyland app for single rider queues to make sure no unexpected changes have been made.
We will however do our best to review and keep this list up to date.
Disneyland Single Rider Line
The main Disneyland park only has three attractions with a single rider queue. The attractions with single rider lines at Disneyland are:
- Materhorn Bobsled
- Splash Mountain
- Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run
I find that out of these options the best rides to use the single rider option pin are the Matterhorn and Splash Mountain. As each of these rides have a relatively large car load i..e 3 x 3 making 6 riders on the MAterhorn and a load of either 6 or 7 at Splash Mountain it means that you are likely to be boarded as a single rider very quickly.
However I would say consider whether or not you want to use single rider on Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run as your enjoyment of the ride may be affected. Smuggler’s Run gives riders the chance to be a pilot, a gunner or a engineer on this famous vessel. However the ride can run without a engineer as these are integral to the ride experience.
Single riders filling up spaces will often get placed as an engineer which in my experience of riding in all positions is by far the worst position to be in. You aren’t guaranteed to be a gunner or pilot in the regular standby or genie + line but you definitely have more chance there than in standby so this is worth considering before you start queuing.
California Adventure Single Rider Lines
The great news about California Adventure is that this park currently (though this can always change), has more single ride lines available than Disneyland. Currently there are 5 rides at California Adventure with single ride queues. They are:
- Incredicoaster
- Radiator Springs Racers
- Goofy’s Sky School
- Grizzly Gulch River Run and
- WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-man adventure.
We also think that some of the single rider queues at California Adventure are better than their Disneyland counter parts due to the speed of which you can typically get on these attractions and the time it saves.
Firstly there are two rides in this selection that do not have Genie+ access. These are
- Radiator Springs Racers and
- WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-man adventure.
The only way to get quick access to these is my purchasing a lightening lane pass which if you are traveling as a family or large queue can really add significant $ to your Disneyland budget.
Also due to the fact that the cars for Radiator Springs Racers can hold 6 passengers you will often find that there is space in a car when people are travelling as a group of 3, 4 and 5., This means that you should in theory have plenty of opportunity to jump on as a single rider.
WEBSLINGER also has a load of 8 people in a car (4 and a 4) therefore if you get a family of 3 in the queue you will be easily able to join their row.
I also love the single rider queues at both Grizzly Gulch River Run and the Incredicoaster as the single rider queues for these tend to go down very quickly.
However it is worth noting if you are traveling to Disneyland on a hot day the single rider queue for Grizzly Gulch River Run may have to close for overcrowding.
How to Use Single Rider Lines at Disneyland FAQS
Now you know which rides have single rider lines we will explain to you how to use single rider lines at Disneyland and tips of maximising your time.
Where are the single rider lines?
You will notice that each of the single rider lines at Disneyland are in a slightly different place. The below information is correct at time of writing however if in any doubt just ask a cast member at the front of the ride entrance and they will help you locate the single rider line.
However generally speaking the single rider lines will have a sign designating them or in the case of Splash Mountain and Grizzly River Run you go to the ride exit to join the single rider queue.
What are the wait times in Single rider queues?
Not all single rider queues at Disneyland will tell you how long you can expect to wait. The time you wait in the single rider line will vary greatly depending on the attraction you want to ride, the time of day you are riding and how busy the park is on the day you are traveling on. For instance Disneyland on Halloween or Disneyland on Thanksgiving are much busier than a Tuesday in February for instance. For more information on the best day of the week to visit Disneyland check out this post.
What is the longest Single rider queues?
Generally speaking the Radiator Springs Racers is likely to have the lowest single rider line as this is one of the most popular rides in the parks. However the single rider line will be significantly shorter than the regular standby line.
However you can also expect the lines to be long for Grizzly Gulch and Splash Mountain on very sunny days.
Do they close Single rider queues?
Yes they can indeed close single rider lines if the crowds are very high or low.
In particular the water rides tend to get shut on very busy and very hot days because of room in the single rider area.
Are single rider lines faster Disneyland?
Generally speaking the single ride lines are faster at Disneyland than regular standby lines but might not be quicker than Genie + or Lightening Lane queues.
Are Disneyland Single Rider Lines Worth It?
If you are happy to ride a ride without the rest of your party then I think the single rider lines are totally worth using. They will reduce your waiting time by quite a long time and means you will be able to maximise the time you have in the park.
However if it is important to you to sit with people you know then they really aren’t worth it for you.
Also I am not convinced the single rider line is worth it for smugglers run as the chances are you will be sat in an engineer seat which in my opinion is the worst place to be on this ride. You can rad our full Smugglers run guide here.
Can kids do single rider at Disneyland?
Yes children over 7 can indeed join the single rider line at Disneyland. However just be sure you have made a plan for where to meet children using the single rider line and don’t expect as a parent to be allowed to sit with your child at the front if you have joined at the single rider queue.
Does Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout have a single rider line?
This is our family’s favorite ride at Disneyland but unfortunately there is no single ride line at this attraction in California Adventure.
If you don’t want to wait in the standby line which can be one of the longest in California Adventure we recommend either rope dropping this attraction or otherwise purchasing a Genie + ticket which will give you a time return for a shorter queue than the standby line.
Does Indiana Jones have a single rider line?
Unfortunately Indiana Jones no longer has a single rider line. This single rider line was discounted in 2022. Ww recommend either rope dropping this attraction or otherwise purchasing a Genie + ticket if you want to avoid a long line at this attraction.
Does Soarin’ have a single rider line?
Unfortunately Soarin’ does not have a single rider line. The best way to beat the queue for soarin is to purchase a Genie + ticket which will give you a time return for a shorter queue than the standby line.
Does Space Mountain have a single rider line?
Another favorite ride in our household that unfortunately does how have a single rider line. Again the best way to skip the queue with this attraction is either with Genie+ or rope dropping this attraction.
And if you are wondering if Space Mountain is scary check out this guide to the attraction.
