10 Best Things to do In Hong Kong with toddler

Hong Kong is a city that has been on my bucket list for such a long time. So as we were booking our round the trip we knew we were going to shoehorn it into our itinerary. Now on the face of it, Hong Kong isn’t the most toddler friendly of cities – the crowds, the hills and the summer weather to name a few. However there are some brill things that you can do on a Hong Kong holiday with a toddler so here we have rounded up our top 10 things to do in Hong Kong with toddler.

10 Best things to do in Hong Kong with toddler

Disneyland Hong Kong with toddler

Disneyland Hong Kong has to be on the list of the best things to do in Hong Kong with a toddler and should definitely be added to your Hong Kong toddler itinerary. Disney is always a great idea with a toddler whether in Japan, California or Hong Kong. The Hong Kong Park is by far the smallest of all the worldwide Disney parks but has a great amount of attractions for toddlers. Due to its size you could probably even just spend an afternoon or evening there but we had a great full day!

It is best to book your Hong Kong Disney in Advance! Click here for discounted advance tickets via Klook Travel

For a full Disney experience then why not stay at the Hong Kong Disneyland Resort

An alternative if you don’t want to visit Disneyland but would still like to experience a theme park in Hong Kong is to visit Oceanland! You can buy your tickets online here

The Peak Tramway

This is one of the best things to do in Hong Kong with kids regardless of age! The Peak Tramway is a funicular railway that takes tourists go to Victoria Peak. The tramway is an experience in itself and the view at the top spectacular ( so I am told we had horrendous weather in Hong Kong so bad nothing could be seen from the top)

Tip for visiting peak tramway – get there early as the queues get horrendously long and make sure you book your tickets in advance!

Hong Kong Observation Wheel

Right on the bay and offering great views! Children will love riding the o derivation wheel!

Hong Kong Park – a great free thing to do in Hong Kong with toddler

Best things to do in Hong Kong with toddler

Looking for the best things to do in Hong Kong with toddlers? The you need to visit the park. This was probably my toddlers favourite place in the city. Not only is there an amazing playground, great views and Greek spaces but there are loads of free animal encounters. From the zoo and butterfly house to my little ones favourite the aviary! Hong Kong park is a definite must for kids!

Ride the MidLevel Escalators

The mid level escalators are a sight to behold and one of the best things to do with toddlers in Hong Kong! Making the hills of Hong Kong accessible to the masses, riding the midlevel escalators is a must for your hong kong itinerary. Toddlers and kids of all ages will love riding them!

Visit the Big Buddha

One of Hong Kong’s biggest tourist attractions! This is a must for any visit to Hong Kong. However if visiting with a toddler leave the stroller behind! This is a definite carry job!

A great way to get to the Big Buddha is via the cablecar! You can book tickets in advance!

Ride or Watch for Aqua Luna

A must for any visit to Hong Kong for kids! Aqua Luna is the iconic clipper that can be spotted by its iconic red sails in Hong Kong. Toddlers will love going for a ride or spotting it as you travel around the city. It is really one of my favourite things to do in Hong Kong with kids.

Take a ferry

If the above doesn’t take your fancy be sure to catch at least one ferry in Hong Kong. Whether to get to one of the many islands or just to get a different perspective on Hong Kong. Kids love it

Walk the Avenue of Stars

The avenue of stars is Hong Kong’s answer to the Hollywood wall of fame!

Please note: this is currently under refurbishment but is due to be completed by end of 2018!

Watch The Nightly Symphony Of Lights And ICC Light Show

Hong Kong’s signature light show! Children will love watching this spectacle over he Bay – if they can stay up late enough to watch it!

Where to Stay in Hong Kong with toddlers

While we were in Hong Kong we stayed in the Grand Hyatt Hong KongWe are really enjoyed our time at the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong and it was particularly well located for the ferries and the observation wheel. It also has a brilliant pool which I think is a necessity for little ones during the worst of the Hong Kong heat!

You can compare prices and check availability for this hotel HERE!

During our time in Hong Kong we also thought that the Conrad Hong Kong was well appointed for traveling with kids as it was attached to one of the nice upscale malls which is handy to have when traveling with kids!

You can check prices for this hotel and book online HERE!

The Four Seasons Hong Kong was also attached to the same mall and this chain always offers outstanding service!

Other tips for Traveling to Hong Kong with kids

Hong Kong with baby

  • Hong Kong is a very easy place to buy baby supplies. Baby food, diapers and pureed foods can be found in lots of pharmacies and supermarkets.
  • We found it difficult using our stroller in Hong Kong. There are lots of uneven pavements and not all stations we found were accessible – we ended up carrying our stroller downstairs a lot.
  • We recommend taking a baby carrier with you for Hong Kong but given the heat be sure to get a baby carrier for hot weather!

I’ve never been to Hong Kong, I didn’t know they had a Disney Park there too! I think lots of these things would be great for older kids too. #wanderlustkids

Growing up in Hong Kong, I loved visiting Hong Kong Park, and when I go back for visits now even as an adult, I always try to get a trip on the Star Ferry. It’s all very nostalgic for me! Too bad you did not have good weather when you went to the Peak!

There’s loads to do in Hong Kong with kids – although it can be tricky to navigate. As you know, we went when our daughters were 4 and 1. They loved the observation wheel and Peak tram – such a shame you got bad weather for it. We didn’t have time to go to Disneyland (although I was tempted) and there also a Noah’s Ark attraction for kids that’s supposed to be good. Thanks for linking to #citytripping

Your photos of Hong Kong are clear – I feel like I’m there! It sounds like there are a lot of great things to do there. We were considering making a side trip when I was in Guangzhou for work, but I didn’t know how it would work with our Chinese visas so we didn’t chance it. I wish we had been able to though – it looks quite a bit less smoggy. 😉

Looks like a fun trip. We have friends with kids in Hong Kong and they have a lot of hidden secrets about pools and play areas. Otherwise, I think I would have been tempted by Disneyland too! Who doesn’t love a good park when you’r on the road with kids. Thanks for joining #FarawayFiles

We spent 4 days in Hong Kong with our older kids over NYE last year and it was such a fun city to explore with them. We even hopped on a boat and went hiking on Lamma Island. They loved the food and exploring the different markets too. #farawayfiles

This is definitely on my list of places I want to visit. My son is definitely not a toddler anymore, but I’m sure he’d love all these ideas. I’m intrigued to find out more about the light show!

I think I would feel a bit daunted at the prospect of visiting Hong Kong with a toddler, it’s such a huge city! I really liked all of your great suggestions, particularly Disney (Disney is always a good idea, right?), and also the park, I love to find green spaces for the kids to blow off some steam. #fearlessfamtrav

Although it might be smaller than we are used to, Hong Kong Disney is somewhere we’re dying to visit. There sounds like there’s lots to do for families in the city as well. #fearlessfamtrav
