Are you looking for the best Lego House tips and tricks? In this guide we show you how to make the most of your time in the amazing Lego House.
Lego House aka the Home of the Brick is an attraction.,in the town center of Billund around a ten minutes walk from the entrance to Legoland Billund and is a must for any Lego fan and visitor to Billund.
Billund is actually the birthplace of Billund as Lego was founded in 1932 in the town by Ole Kirk Kristiansen. The Lego House is a mix of museum dedicated to the history of the company and its most famous sets in the basement and experience zones upstairs where you get hands on with lego and Duplo.
So without further ado we will give you plenty of Lego House Tips and Tricks to help you make the most of your day!
Lego House Tips and Tricks
Do you need to book tickets to Lego House?
Yes, you absolutely need tickets in order to visit a large majority of the Lego House. We recommend buying these online in advance to guarantee entry.
However there are some areas which you can visit for free without a ticket. These are:
- the Lego House store – one of the best places for exclusive lego sets and Billund souvenirs,
- the Mini Chef Restaurant or Brickaccino cafe,
- the rooftop playgrounds.
While all of these places are great and worth putting your Billund itinerary however I still recommend getting tickets to visit the Lego History Collection and the Lego Experience zones.
When is the best time to visit Lego House?
If you are visiting Lego House then we recommend trying to visit on a weekday as opposed to a weekend if you can as it is usually quieter.
Also if you are traveling during the school holidays from the UK you may want to consider visiting in Whitsun or the last week of August as the Danish schools will be in session.
Also when thinking about the best time to visit Lego House you also have to consider the time of day to visit. Lego House admission tickets require you to book a timed slot for entry (though once you are in you can come in and out as much as you want). For this reason, and based on how long we spent at Lego House, we recommend getting an entry time before lunch – in fact we recommend getting a time ticket for around 10-11 to make the most of your day.
What do you need to book in advance for Lego House?
Other than your timed admission tickets there isn’t too much else you need to book in advance. The only thing that does need booking in advance is a reservation for the Mini Chef restaurant if you wish to dine there.
Note: if you can’t get a reservation on the day of your visit, you can book for another day as you can access the restaurant without an admission ticket.
Is Lego House Toddler Friendly?
One of the biggest concerns I had about visiting Lego House was taking my toddler. I knew my AFOL husband and lego mad daughter would love the Lego House but I wasn’t sure how much there would be there for toddlers.
But I needn’t have worried. In each of the experience zones there is a huge DUPLO pit that kept my toddler entertained while my older child was playing in the experience zones.
It is worth pointing out that your little one needs to remove their shoes to go into the Duplo pit so you may want to make sure they have socks on for the day of your visit.
Note: you can take a stroller into the Lego House, however you won’t be able to take your stroller up the staircase around the Tree of Creativity so be sure to go see this.
Is Lego House or Legoland Better?
We put both Legoland and Lego House on our Billund itinerary and if you have tome we recommend doing the same. However if you can only pick one it can be a tough choice.
If you are an AFOL (Adult Fan of Lego) I definitely recommend the Lego House as this is such a unique experience as it is the only Lego House in the World.
However if you are with a toddler or small child they may prefer the rides at Legoland.
How long do you need at Lego House?
One of the most frequent questions we get about visiting the Lego House is how long do you need. When we visited we arrived at 10:30am and didn’t leave until after 6pm. We definitely recommend allocating a whole day to visit the Lego House and booking an early admission time.
Where to eat at Lego House
There are a few restaurants at the Lego House. There is:
- Brickaccino – a cafe that doesn’t require a reservation
- Mini Chef – a table service restaurant where food is delivered by robots. You can check out our review here.
What are must sees and dos at Lego House
So now you have tips for visiting Lego House, we will turn our attention to the must sees here.
The Tree of Creativity
The Tree of Creativity is the first thing you will see when you arrive inside the Lego House. This is the world’s largest Lego sculpture and stands at over 50 ft (15 meters) tall and is made up of over 6 million bricks.
As you walk up the stairs to the Master piece Gallery we recommend taking time to look at the carvings in the tree trunk which represent key moments in Lego history as well as to spot the vintage Lego sets sitting on the branches.
Masterpiece Gallery
The Masterpiece Gallery is an absolute must for your visit and is where we started our day.
There are 3 giant Lego constructed dinosaurs (one from lego bricks, one from technic bricks and one from Duplo) that are amazing to see.
Also in this gallery are AFOL (Adult Fan of Lego) creations. These are not kit creations but massive unique constructions. When we were there we saw a lego wedding dress and a Ministry of Magic creation which were very inspiring.
Lego Experience Zones
The main event of Lego House are the Lego Experience Zones. In these zones there are 16 activities based around core Lego values. They include:
- Car Creation and jumping and race track
- Remote control Lego Robots
- Mini Figure Creation Station
- Lego Aquarium
- Lego Stop Motion Animation
- Emotion Zone
- Flower Garden
and more.
Don’t spend time too much time in each zone as there are lots of activities you will want to expreience and you can always go back and do your favorite things again later in the day.
Mini Chef
Mini Chef is a completely unique Lego based restaurant in the Lego House. You order your food via unique ego bricks and then get your food delivered by Lego robots Robert and Roberta.
The food isn’t the best for fussy eaters however it is a truly unique experience that Lego fans will love!
Lego History Collection
The Lego History Collection is in the basement of the Lego House. It is the only official public Lego collection in the world and is a must for adults and Lego fans visiting the House.
We spent 30 minutes in this area but adults visiting may spend longer.
Best Lego House Souvenirs
Any Lego fan will want to commemorate their visit to the Lego House with a souvenir. The Lego House shop was our favorite in the whole of Billund and the best place for unique Lego sets.
Lego House has several limited edition sets that are only available here including the Lego Hour architectural set and limited time ones – when we were there theyw ere selling a Lego Mini Fig pirate and a replica of the original lego duck.
Also it is not uncommon for Lego designers to come into the Lego House and sign the sets they designed. My little girl was thrilled to find the Rapunzel Tower built and signed by the Lego Masters contender, and now Lego Designer Boone!
